Did EA sign some mysterious document that prohibits other companies from making new PC golf games?

I actually can't disagree with that.

When did they stop with that? Last one I remember was Links 486, an upgrade of Links 386.

I remember this game that took place in the future and it had a store shelf that said Links 986 on it.

they probably have a deal with the pga like they have with the nfl.

yeah, but you can make a good golf game without featuring the pga.

The hot shots golf series proves that

I don't remeber a Links game called Links 486. First there was the original Links, followed by Links 386 Pro, and then the Links LS series.

Microsoft bought the rights to the name from Access (or perhaps bought Access) and then released a couple of Links games, the last one being Links 2003. I've never played Links 2001 or Links 2003.

i own every Links game from LS 1998 all the way to 2003 :p

and a bunch of course CDs as well.

not sure if a further release is planned by Microsoft. Tiger Woods games are definitely biting into the PC golf market, as they are much more simple and arcade-like. (i play them because they're close to their console versions, which I enjoy).

Links is more of a simulation... it's much harder, but more rewarding when you make a nice shot. Haven't played it in ages though.

I had the original Links and Links 386 Pro with virtually all of the add-on courses. It must have been at least 50 floppy disks. I feel old. :(

Links 2003 rocks for a sim. But TW 2006 is pretty damn fine too ... easier to get into if you want to play with others who might not want quite so much a sim. I am playing a ton of TigerWoods 2001 on the playstation 1 right now in preparation for my trip. TPC at the Canyons FTW! :)

I still had my C64 up until about a year ago. I remember having several golf games but the names elude me. There was this one that if you hit your ball in a bunker in front of a body of water, you had to restart the game because you couldn't hit the ball out of the bunker more than like 20 yards or something and you couldn't forfeit the hole or take an uplayable lie. The prior version of that golf game had no bunkers but had water absolutely everywhere.

Links is now a xbox series.

You havent realise that for the last 3 years, all good game headed toward xbox/xbox360 rather than pc?

This is the reason i dont upgrade anymore.
