I decided not to move in with her. We agreed that it was illogical and we weren't mature enough. Plus, a walk to her dorm isn't THAT bad. ;)

I would like to thank EVERYONE who replied to this thread. Even the @55H0L35. :)

Anandtech has changed my life for the better thanks to all of it's wonderful members. Your opinion and participation was greatly appreciated!

Thanks Again Friends,
Dustin

your poll is useless without a poll. but i'll say i have two friends who are roommates w/ their boyfriends. definitely not a good idea. one was a crazy psycho, she had to move out, couldn't break the lease, still paying rent (i think it was cheaper for her to do this than break the lease at the point in time).

the other broke up w/ him but they are still living under the same roof.

I give you 2 months of living with her before one of you dumps the other one.

You seem to be lacking a poll. Also, I'd spend more time thinking about whether you REALLY want to room with your significant other in college. I never did it, but I knew people who did, and with few excpetions, they made me glad we had decided against it.

Actually, we plan on marrying and have been together for over a year now. She is going to be a doctor and I'm going to be an IT.

and if you gave your dad this link to check up on... in hopes of moving in w/ your gf... i think it just backfired. if you're just trying to prove a point.. well.. then you win.

ok, your post came up while i was typing and answered my question. if you're pretty much engaged... eh, might not be so bad. but i still would be against it while still in school.

The odds are highly stacked against you. Just FYI.

unless your the one paying the bills, STFU and listen to what your parents tell you.

not to mention the fact that living with your bf/gf in college is a HORRIBLE idea. not only will you two most likely breakup, if you were living together you'd be out a place which would suck even more.

Wow, you've been together a whole year, must be serious
Dude, a frickin' year, you haven't been to college yet, you're thinking of marriage, you're full of BS, and YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO COLLEGE YET.
Seriously, how much of life do you truely know? IMO it's stupid to move in with her, then break up, find you're both screwed in terms of living arrangements, and then you'll come here and whine your life is over.
It's not gonna be good for you.
It's not gonna be good for her.
It's not gonna be good for your dad (except he gets to say "I told you so")
And last but DEFINATELY not least:
It's not going to be good for US on this board having to listen to your whining when you realise we were right and you're screwed.

(And before you say "You need to get a girlfriend", well I had one for maybe 18 months, we got to college (university) and after a few weeks (we had accommodation in seperate places, arranged by the uni), it clearly wasn't working out, and we broke up - amicably. If we had been living together, it almost certainly still wouldn't have worked, but we may have ended on less friendly terms, our initial experiences would have been a lot different, and we'd be in trouble because we'd be living together still, and possibly not on the best of terms).

WTF? Your in college having been together only a year and your already thinking of marrage?!?!?! Is she your first serious girlfriend or something?

What the hell, go live with her, if you plan on marrage its good to live with the person first. Just be aware it could/probably will go horribly wrong.

Why?

quoting skillz need work. half of marriages end in divorce. much higher if you have only been together a year. much higher still if you are still in college

I'm already a year into college. And we never had ANY arguments the ENTIRE TIME. And we don't drink or smoke. She also loves to play Halo 2. She also taught ME about the joy of torrents.

Sure and when I came home for holidays and what not, she'd sleep in my bed with me at my parents' house. Tell your dad to stop being such a puritan puke.

AS a now platinum member, i conclude that you should live at home because you do not have enough common senese to make this clearly obvious decsision on your own, and clearly still require parental guidance.
