Did/Do you dissect organisms in lab without any protection?

I dont use any protection. I dont wear lab aprons or gloves when dissecting things and handling them. People really get disturbed by this, so i would like to ask the question.... Am i the only one that dissects animals without gloves/aprons etc.

I had no problems dissecting w/o anything. You have more control.

I don't have a problem with people doing that, but I wore the crap because I don't want to get the stank on my hands. If you have snug rubber gloves then there is no issue with grip or anything.

Um, they're usually preserved with formaldehyde or something, so there isn't much danger from bacteria. However, the formaldehyde isn't exactly good for you. I wear gloves to basically keep my hands clean, which I'd recommend to you. Aprons/lab coats probably isn't too necessary if you are careful not to get anything on you, although it's not hard to just put an apron/lab coat on, you lazy @ss.

hrm.. i only disected things in the 7th grade... and if you didn't wear the protection, you didn't get to participate.

in high school we dissected fetal pigs and wore gloves. before that we dissected worms, don't remember if we had gloves or not.

The only dissection i've ever done was in 8th grade, on an earthworm..I don't think we wore gloves..

My current biology teacher doesn't believe in killing animals for dissection... hippie teacher=profit
