I started just lifting the bar, only 45 pounds but I concentrated on using proper form.breathing and feeling it in the appropriate muscle groups.I also worked both inner/outter grip.

I am getting stronger slowly but surely and doing more in the free weight area.Grandma moves heavy metal 😎

Congrats! The tough part is sticking with it, though. I used to bench about 150, about 10 reps. That was about 3 years ago and I did it about 3 time.

if you're working out by youself try doing dumbells instead, it's safer.

I'd been doing dumbells but wanted to try the bench.I'm hoping to find a workout partner soon🙂

what are you goals? are you trying to lose weight or just get toned up?

my wife just started lifting weights with me last week, she's making some good improvements already

take it slow.......... I remembered when I first got into weights........... I was all gung ho and did every body part at high weight levels........... I was crippled by lactic acid the next day 🙁 I just had to work it out 🙁 Worst experience I have had 😛

Cheers,
Aquaman

I can do 12 reps of 115 but then have to drop down to 95 for my next 30 reps 🙁 I was 120 before I started lifting. now i'm 145 :-\

I've lost most of the weight, trying to lower BF down a bit at a time and see how I like the look,I'm down around 18% or so based on the thigh test-ie: when I put my feet/knees together thighs don't touch and you can see the light🙂 I want tone but don't want to be stringy, see every muscle thin.I am getting nice arms at this point🙂

are you serious? how long did it take you to work up to that much weight?

i just really started lifting seriously again after years and I'm probably a long way from doing 250.

I can't bench worth crap, my upper body is not as strong as my lower body (I am a mountain biker) leg press is great though 😀

Yes, I am serious. I have been on and off lifting since I was 16 (now 34) but got back into it serious again last July, when I started working out to lose about 20 lbs. After I got to about 180, I decided to concentrate on increasing my weight (both physical and plate). So I concentrate on low reps heavy weight, one main body part a day, once a week. I warm up with 160, then 180, then jump to 225 and eventually rounded out with 250 at 2 this morning. 3 sets, 2 minute breaks. Jump to 3 sets incline dumbbell presses at 75 x 8, then weighted dips with a 25lb weight for 6-8 reps.

Keep at it, have a plan, and you will reach it.

lol, considering that 2 months ago I could barely manage one set of 12 preacher curls at 20 pounds I'd say I'm doing ok🙂

I'm a fan of the 12-10-8 rep routine

say you know you can do 12 at 45, well do 10 at 55, then 8 at 65 once you feel you can do 12 of 55 keep bumping the weight up.
