Did ATI's 5000 series cards just jump about $100?!

I was looking at the prices of a number of 5000 series card the other day specifically looking the difference between getting a 5970 and 2x5870 CF and looking at the prices again today they seem almost 100 buck higher!? I could be wrong.

I wouldn't expect the prices of the 5000 Series to fall because I was expecting the price of the GTX 470 to be cheaper than the 5870 but in the UK they are the same price with the GTX 480 being £130 more expensive than the GTX 470 and 5870. :(

Based on the review of the 480 and 470 just posted I would say they aren't worth it yet. They are faster but not by enough to justify the price I'd say. Looks like we should wait a see what happens with prices. With both companies struggling with low yields though prices likely won't drop anytime soon :( I'm going to be building a new system in a year or so and I'm hoping by that time the yield issue will be fixed.

UK pricing is an utter joke like usual :/ (prices taken from overclockers, maybe a few £'s diff elsewhere but they are normally pretty good with top end parts)

470 = £310-350 (all pre-order)

480 = £445-480 (all pre-order)

5850 = £220-270 (can get for £225)

5870 = £320-360 (can get for £320)

I seriously hopes no one buys NV in UK @ those prices, not that I image we will actually get anything much in terms of availability on these shores :S

£445! That's nuts. That's $680 Canadian! The 5870 prices you list there are much closer to what I can get it for here, though still a little higher.

uhuh... Doesn't get called 'Rip-off-Britain' for no reason :p

Yes the £ is getting hammered at the moment, but we always pay an additional premium for IT/ tech goods, especially at the bleeding edge.

Yeah wild price swings. It must be due to low stock and yield issues. Every site I check is REALLY low on stock on all the higher end 5xxx series cards or out completely.

If they did I am glad I got mine when I did. Good news for people who are selling them for a new Nvidia card though!

The kicker? I picked up an MSI 5870 on one of the forums last week for $320 from someone unloading to pick up a GTX4x0. :awe:

2 weeks plus til Fermi hits the shelves, availability on par or less than the 5800s when they were released, and only 10-15% more performance for $100 more ($200 more than what they got for the card). Ouch. Someone pulled a trigger too early.

Prices are up a bit at ncix with very little stock. Looks like ati is still having production issues.

Amd better get going if they want to stay in business.
