I think you should read some current reviews of the card, drivers tend to improve after a product launch. I have had no driver issues since I received the card in December. 8500 performance is on par with the Ti500 these days. This is the most recent review I have read of the 8500 here.

8500 is a nice value proposition these days, ~$90-100 less than a Ti500. Be sure you buy the retail version, it is clocked higher than OEM's. Can be had for around $160 on pricewatch.

I 2nd tazdevl's post, game compatibility problems are gone and performance has improved to the point where it's almost it should be. Performance could still be better, I still think the 8500 could destroy the Ti500 if it had the right drivers. Having said that though, the drivers are still good and not a reason to avoid the card.
