Did anyone watch Oprah today?

I normally don 't watch Oprah but I was at my parent's home and my mom had it on. She had an expert on the SARS epidemic and he stated "A panademic will take place within the next 10 years. Your loved ones will all die. Prepare for this event!"

Scary stuff. It's coming guys and this virus will strike and possibly kill 500,000 plus healthy 20-40 year old Americans. Worldwide this virus will kill millions upon millions of people.

Also, he said researchers recreated the Spanish virus of 1918 and they found that this virus started the same way as SARS. Both viruses are very similar.

Similar situation has happened with Canines. The equine influenza virus spread to Greyhounds from horses. Initially it was only spread to dogs from infected horses. Unfortunately quite recently it has been found to spread from dog to dog. This has caused quite a lot of buzz among show dog and racing dog owners.

We need to try to be prepared when the bird flu starts spreading from people to people.

Not true. This virus will attack your immune system and will turn it against itself. This virus thrives on healthy adults. The stronger your immune system is the more damage it can do to your body.

Those health nuts are dead.

Actually, this virus causes you to drown yourself from an over-response of your immune system to the lungs. So the very healthy may be the ones dying fastest.

So far as I understand it.


I get tired of seeing these people on TV. "Hey everyone, panic!" That won't do any good. What happens, happens. Living in constant fear of a virus is not a fun way to live.

The expert was scaring me. He stated "Imagine body bags for miles. Imagine going to the hospital to only find a line that stretches for miles. Imagine our economy crumbling and imagine the worst case scenrio."

This will affect us on many levels. People are going to lock themselves in their homes so they don't catch this deadly virus. The economy will grind to a halt.

We need a good backup plan. We don't have one because we have this "It's not going to happen to me" attitude.

Can we get back to the original point, where the OP was watching Oprah with his mother? That scares me more than any virus out there.
