To their credit at least they didn't take it and keep it.

I found $50 once. I was in the first or second grade, and found it walking into school. I turned it in to the principal's office. I felt pretty good about it.

Two days later, we had a substitute teacher in the class, and she embarassed the hell out of me. She called me in front of the class, and started to tell about a rough morning she had a few days ago. She overslept, and was rushing to get her husband out of the house and get her daughter to school, and didn't have any time to make breakfast. She dropped her daughter off at school and headed to Mcdonalds for a bite, only to get there and find that her money was missing. She retraced her steps and was running around, and headed back to school, where her $50 was waiting for her. IIRC she gave me part of the money back as a reward, maybe $20. The details are a little fuzzy, but I've always thought it was a remarkable coincidence.

Years ago the college newspaper at the university I attended tried setting up a sting operation in the student union. I was eating lunch and had noticed a CD player sitting on a table next to me when I sat down. When I was finished with my lunch, and grabbed the CD player and headed to the Infomation Desk where the "Lost and Found" was located. While I was at the desk turning in the CD player, some wannabe reporters ambushed me accusing me of stealing it.

We leave the bench take about 10 to 15 steps and I ask her wheres your book? we turn around the bag was gone from the bench.

My daughter was of course upset and learned a valuable new york city survival skill. But you have to admire the efficiency of the New York City clean up crew :)

P.S.
If it was me and found the Ipod at a mall I would probably turn it to lost and found.

peace

Haha, good story. NYCers don't fvck around.

This show was just the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

Basically the premise of the show is that dateline "plants" these ipods in places at malls, as if they misplaced the item or forgot about it. Then they wait for a person to come by and take the ipod, then ambush them later asking them why they "stole" it.

One person on the show displayed my thoughts exactly. In my opinion, you can equate finding a brand new unopened ipod to finding a $100 dollar bill. I mean who are you really going to turn that thing in to? If you turn it into lost and found at the mall, it isnt going to go farther than the person behind the counter. How are you supposed to claim your missing ipod? There are no distinguishing marks on the ipod and no real way to find the owner. Its a lost cause.

I am not the type to steal at all, but if I was walking in some touristy area (they did it on fremont st. in las vegas) and saw a brand new unopened ipod sitting on a bench and nobody was near it, I would probably take it myself as well. There would be a 100% chance of me or someone else taking that ipod.

As for the people that stole the ipod off of car dashes and out of purses, that is where I would actually turn the ipod into lost and found. I would never touch the ipod on someones car dash. But if i found a purse with an ipod in it, i would turn it into lost and found b/c the person would actually be able to claim the purse and everything in it!

It's about morals. I personally would turn it in because I wouldn't want to own it knowing how I got it. To each his own :)

*FLAME ON* :D

plus you aren't usually going to have more than one person asking at lost and found "Has anyone returned an iPod"...usually if new in box they should have a receipt on them for it unless it was in the bag with the ipod.

Same with a $100 bill.

The lost and found people are generally trustworthy, but YMMV on anything.
