Did anyone see the basketball players (for Texas) fighting with a fan?

Last night during a game between Texas and Oklahoma St. a player going after a loose ball flew into the stands. He knocked over a woman who was pregnant. It was obviously an accident. The husband of the pregnant woman grabbed the player and started pushing him away. The player pushed back.

The fan overreacted to the player crashing into his wife, but she was pregnant. I can see it as a natural human response. The player pushing back was equally as natural. Nothing too serious about that.

THEN! Suddenly a second player grabs the husband and the two players together slam the guy down. THEN!!!! A couple of other Texas players leap over photographers and cheerleaders to jump into the fray. One big guy was seen throwing punches at the husband was by now fighting off 4 players.

That was total bullsh*t. Not one thing was done to those players. Not one stinking thing. It's total bullsh*t. Guys two times the size of most people jumps over people and starts throwing punches?? If you throw a punch at another player in a game your ass is out and everyone talks about what a bad person you are. The coach of the Denver Nuggets had to resign after he called a fan who was heckling him a "drunk mexican."

What kind of ridiculous world do we live in where words will get you in trouble but throwing punches won't?

The story I heard was that the guy that knocked the woman down immediately picked her back up to see if she was ok. That's when the husband got all crazy and tried to choke him. The way I see it, the players were just standing up for one of their own, nothing wrong with that. Besides if you're pregnant, why the heck are you in the front row in the first place? Players falling into fans happens all the time (I do assume these people watch the news). They should've known better.

well, first off....both sides were wrong...
but if you want to get down to technical stuff, it was the husband who over reacted imho (dunno, i've never had a pregnant wife)
obviously the player who knocked her over was sorry and trying to help her up...
and the second player entered to try and break the two guys apart, at which point the other players came...
the husband pretty much took down the first guy, and along with him the rest of the team
the one guy that was throwing punches obviously should be suspended or fined or whatever...
but by now people should know, especially in basketball with the fans so close to the action, players can come around and knock some people around...
so standing near the sideline with a pregnant wife....not the best idea in the world...

edit: virtuamike beat me to it 😛

The contact was obviously accidental, the guys were just playing the game. The husband saw the wife on the ground and basically started choking one of the players. If he had just let them help up the woman and go back to the game nothing would have happened. But he came after the player and of course, if you mess with one guy, you mess with the whole team. I agree that James Thomas running in and throwing a punch was extreme, but he was just protecting his teammate. It never should have happened.

To clarify - 2 Texas players jumped into the stands at the same time going after the same loose ball. One of them crashed into (and knocked down) the woman. The other one ran into the husband. The player that knocked down the wife moved to pick her up and the husband went after the player that had ran into him. The other player (the one that had knocked down the wife) then basically body slammed the husband to get him off his teammate. At that point the other Texas players entered and it was difficult to see exactly who was scuffling with who.
