Did anyone see Bush's speech at the Naval Hospital yesterday?

Some 'worthwhile' snippets from here:

Wonderful thing about free speech and a lot of TV stations is you get a lot of opinions. Some of them were right, and some of them were really wrong. But that's okay. That's what we -- that's what we believe; we believe in free speech, believe people ought to be able to express their opinion.
Great, so anyone whose opinions don't match yours are wrong? Opinions are frames of mind, President Bush. Opinions can be unpopular, but never wrong.

and...

We believe freedom is -- is a gift from the Almighty God for every person, regardless of their race or their religion.
That's what you believe. That's your OPINION. My opinion? Freedom is a gift from the great forefathers of this country who fought against the tyrannical government of England. There's no God involved in my freedom.

As the Commander of the forces, he was a bit shaken by the visit to the soldiers. God is a very big part of our government - just look at the currency in your wallet.

You didn't give me an opinion - you stated 'perceived' facts and added the word 'opinion' in front of it.

Bush was talking about people who were anti-war. They have opinions, and they believe them. That's not wrong.

God is not a big part of our government. How has God helped my fill out my tax return? How has he helped my mailman deliver my letters? How has he helped our troops defeat the Iraqi army? He hasn't.

Come to think of it, I think our government would run just fine without God on our currency or coming out of our president's mouth.

EDIT: and if God's name will continue to be printed on our money, I'd prefer the name Adonai. Followers of the Jewish faith like me don't use the word God that often. Just my opinion, though.

I guess you have never read too much of our founding fathers work, now have you. These rights that you now have were considered to be gifts from the Creator or God........maybe a history refreshor course is in order.....

Oh, I've read them. My 5 on the AP History test and a major in Political Science can attest to that. But I have a problem with people who think God is still involved in American government. Where is God? Can you show me how God has helped to improve partisan bickering on Capitol Hill? Wouldn't God (if he were still involved in American government) have quickly ended the 2000 presidential election fiasco with a swift and just decision?

God isn't on the U.S. government's payroll. Nor is He working as a bureaucrat.

I agree God shouldn't be mentioned as Bush has...but for the most part he has refrained from making it a religious issue.

Well at least we know that etech is careful about the age of the goats and camels he molests. I, for one, as a stranger to the concept, would be curious as to how old is old enough.

That's still not an opinion, it's an accusation, or supposition, or theory. Opinions are pretty much limited to questions of right or wrong or good or bad, and they can't be proven one way or the other due to the subjective nature of good and bad and right and wrong.

And to add, it's way, way too early to say any theories on the war (other than whether we'd win relatively quickly) were correct or not.

Nice personal insult that has nothing to do with this discussion moonie. Take your trolling elsewhere, I'm not going to play that game with you in this thread.

A couple of comments about opinions. Definition of opinion........"A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof." So, imho, Jumpr is a young liberal wacko with communist leanings who has a lot of growing up to do. Can my opinion be wrong? Of course it can. Synonyms for opinion are conjecture, belief, supposition, and like opinions, all of these can be wrong. Some people were of the opinion that the streets of Baghdad would be running red with US blood, and from everything I have seen, those opinions were not only wrong, they were dead wrong....:) Neither of Bush's statements were incorrect or out of the ordinary. Bush was just reiterating the foundations of our freedoms as espoused by the founding fathers and every president since then........

Etech probably believes in the old proverb: "If it's old enough to pee, it's old enough for me!", when determining the right age for a goat or camel to pursue his affections with.

Your opinion is wrong. :D I don't have communist leanings; I'm a full-fledged member of the communist party. :)

What, what, what, etech. Did I insult? I didn't mean to. It was only an opinion intended like your own:

etech:

"It's my opinion that you molest underage goats and camels.

Is my opinion wrong?"

How should I have properly phrased it. I study carefully your left handed complements and the way you work your lateral jibes. Should I have said:

It's my opinion, etech, that you molest properly aged goats and camels.

Is my opinion wrong?
