LXi, if it's going to be a who's the best contest, please don't continue..

"They put the Fraunhofer codecs back in there."

no it's not the same codec as before (from v2.22):

if you didn't know, the new plugin is a variation of Fhg from what I understand, that has been tweaked for less CPU usage.. ie, mmx, 3DNow!, and SSE. the original fraunhoffer codec really wasn't optimized much at all.

You can forget about that with my ears and my audio gears. I can't hear one iota of difference.

good, cause I don't think I can tell the difference (so sue me) either! hehe..

well on crappy quality songs I can hear compression artifacts.. 112 is easy to notice, 128 is somewhat hard to hear problems (to me), and 160 is getting darn close to perfection..

Wow you actually use a specific bit rate? No way not here.... VBR is much better IMO. sure its a bigger file size but its great quality.

Dulanic, I was referring to the Mp3's I get off napster..

most of them aren't VBR, when I CAN get VBR, I get it. it certainly does rule, I can't hear artifacts at all, because it dedicates the data to whatever needs it..

whenever I rip CD's, I use the LAME MP3 encoder along with Audiograbber.. I set it to joint stereo VBR ~180kbps...

VBR is suppose to have smaller files because in parts that are less detailed VBR will turn to low bit rate, and when high detail is present VBR will crank it up to high bit rate, therefore saving up some space oppose to using the same bit rate throughout the song.

Bhudda Bart... dude... don't get down... Nullsoft KICKS ASS... do you know why they produced Gnutella, and the plugin that gets rid of the advertisements on AIM? Cuz they hate it under AOL's rule. I think they signed up for a one year contract, and they are rebelling like crazy. I think their plan is to piss AOL off as much as possible.. in hopes that AOL will cancel it. Anyway... they still Nullsoft man... when the hell is 3.0 coming out? Freaking been hearing about it forever. If I had a faster computer I'd be running Sonique right now... but the CPU usage is killer on that thing...

Justins working very hard on writing a new codec following MP3 specifications to the number. I cant wait to see what he comes up with.

How is Sonique better than winamp?
Winamp is so much more versatile, although the default settings for Sonique may sound a little better, with a few plug-ins Winamp will kick its ass. Anyways, I believe that this Franwhatever codec has less decoding errors than the previous version.

this is what this release has. the new codec that follows the ISO standard for MP3, is just a tweaked Fraunhoffer codec!
