now this might be something strange, or just remporarily ...

but I have a 5 year old hotmail account, and about every spammer in the world must have me on his list.

and I used to get around 30 to 60 spam mails a day. but lately this has dropped down to 1

anyone else noticed a decrease in spam ?

(not that I'm complaining, it's just odd)

No - I am getting on average 100 spams a day. There is an interesting thing being considered now by Congress - whether or not to set up a bounty on spammers. That would release a lot of hackers and others with the incentive to get paid for identifying and pinpointing a spammer to authorities in light of the recent legislation. But - the real problem is that more than half of my spam comes from offshore sources in Europe, Asia, and Africa. How can our laws be applied? I say they can't.

So, we continue fighting the battle. If there were zero sales success, that would eventually cause it to dry up - but as long as there is one sucker out there willing to get his penis enlarged, the spam will continue unabated.

Hey I thought it was only me, but yeah I DID notice that I am receiving less spam on my hotmail account (which is, unfortunately, my primary account).

The laws mean nothing unless you can get the off-shore offenders on American soil.

My solution...

Send the spammers a letter stating they've won a free, all-expenses paid luxury holiday to DisneyLand to entice them to America, then shackle 'em in cuffs the moment they step off the plane :)

(Disclaimer: This post should be taken in jest btw :))

well, in europe spamming is allready illegal, but there is not really any action to get the spammers arrested.

and my hotmail is also my primary account :) it was just too handy to have my own name regged, and not my name and some numbers etc ;)

mine decreased - I cancelled my old account. Now I use 3 accounts: one real, one for typing in at legitimate websites that require an email address, and one for places I really don't trust.

I never get spam on my domain accounts. :D It's easily worth the $4/mo I spend on it just for that. My old VT account gets boatloads and it's getting worse by the day.

What's worse is the influx of SPIM, or Instant Messenger spam. I don't want to block everyone buy those on my buddy list because I occasionally have old friends messaging me or new ones that just received my sn. I am now getting a half dozen of these a day. It does no good to block them since they always start up a new account.

Now that you mention it I was getting at least one email a day on buying perscriptions online. Sometimes 2-3 and I haven't recieved one in several days.

Maybe the people pushing the send button are on Christmas vacation already. ;)

Spam has increased on my primary account, which is a yahoo one. Though I don't get many repeat spammers once I report the message as spam. Yahoo is pretty good about filtering reported messages.

Hmm, I guess it isn't just me. Hotmail used to generate 170+ spams per week. Now it's closer to 20. I think this took effect when they redesigned the Hotmail site.

I've definitely noticed a decrease in spam with Hotmail. I use to get 50+ a day, now i get only 1 or 2.

No noticable decrease here. But I'm not on Hotmail. Did'nt a new law get signed recently on this very topic?

Mine's increasing a bit. Instead of 1 SPAM a week to my main account, I get 1 every other day now.

Nevermind I have gotten 4 more meds spam since my last post. I was hoping though. ;)

The b!tch of it is they don't offer an unsubscribe in the email. Most of them don't have my email in the address either. :|
