Enjoyable, but nowhere iconic status. It's sure not going to go down in history or even be remembered ten years from now. Not a single moment of it stands out as anything special.

I actually just finished watching it. I turned it on just as background while I was on the rowing machine. Ended up doing 20k meters instead of the 10k I had planned because it kept me occupied.

Not the best movie in the world, but IMHO excellent for the genre / sub-genre (whatever you consider comic book movies lol).

It was entertaining I guess, but after hearing all the hype I was left wondering wtf I missed.

6/10, entertaining but overall generic action movie in space.

I went into it expecting it to be a bit campy, a bit different, and a little off the wall. It just didn't blow me away the way some other movies have lately, again, probably due to the hype.

A few complaints: (spoilers)

Groot (who shares places with Rocket as the most interesting character, IMO) seems to develop/reveal incredible skills just in time to solve a problem. Can't reach something? He can grow in height almost instantly to reach it (prison scene). Hallway full of bad guys? He'll just send an extended arm's worth of growth out to skewer them and bash them into submission (aboard Ronan's ship). If he's capable of such massive, quick growth and taking on so many baddies so quickly, why didn't he do that a dozen other times during the film?

Rocket is a gadget junkie with a bad attitude, cool. We see him making some armaments on Peter's ship with stuff he found lying around, but it really only becomes a minor plot point. Why couldn't we see some really cool, James Bond-esque use of gadgets? Or perhaps some critical cobbled repairs to get the group out of a jam?

Gamora was hyped up to be a total bad-ass (at least that's the impression I got), but her fighting skills seemed forgettable overall. I was expecting something out of Riddick when she was about to meet her end in the prison, but instead the scene just gave the impression that she couldn't handle herself after all. She ended up seeming like more of a love interest than anything else, just there to spice things up.

Drax seemed absolutely useless. every time he fought, he got his ass kicked. I liked the avenging drive he had, and his literal take on every sentence was funny, but again, it just seemed like he wasn't all that important. Not to mention he joined the team WAY too fast and easily - he went from "I'm going to kill this green chick" to "I'm going to follow you down the Yellow Brick Road to find Ronan with you" with minimal persuasion and not an ounce of distrust.

Ronan just seemed way over-done. The way his voice boomed, the pure evil demeanor, etc. It felt like a villain out of a campy 80s sci-fi flick. My biggest complaint was fact that, unlike everyone else, he suddenly knows how to wield the Infinity Stone by putting it into his hammer (scepter?). Maybe if you read the comics it made perfect sense, but coming from someone that hasn't, it just made me roll my eyes.

Yondu was interesting... until the scene where he uses his magic arrow to kill two dozen of Ronan's soldiers surrounding him. Once again, if he's THAT powerful, why isn't he running his own empire? Why isn't he taking on hordes of anyone that would oppose him, seeing as how he can take them all out with a whistle?

Peter, AKA Star-Lord, was entertaining overall. The connection with his mother and the drive to keep the tape player and present were excellent, IMO. The way they worked the music in was very well done. However, they took a guy, had him steal an ancient artifact (which was powerful enough to destroy entire planets, and yet left completely unguarded even though people knew about it?), and he JUST SO HAPPENS to have a mysterious father whose lineage somehow allows him to wield the all-powerful Infinity Stone. Go figure.

Overall, it was a decent movie, but too many of the plot points felt like they were dreamed up by a kid in grammar school. Too many things seemed disjointed or pointless - maybe they just needed more time to explain it all. The thing that kept coming to mind while watching it was Deux Ex Machina.

Loved everything about it. The soundtrack has been on regular rotation in my car since it came out. It was over the top stupid fun, and I tend to enjoy that if it's done well. This one ticked all the boxes for me.

Drax alone has some of the best one liners alone since some of the older Mel Brooks films.

All good points but you have to expect that attention to detail isn't going to be a high priority for a movie that features a raccoon and a tree. Granted, plot holes and missteps can be irritating if you're actually thinking about what is happening on the screen and if you're the analytical type, it's hard to avoid that. But sometimes you have to realize going in that you need to suspend your sense of reason in order to enjoy something.

For example one thing I thought was stupid in the movie was
the attack scene near the end of the movie. It made no sense to me to have a wall in mid-air. But wtf, I just spent the past hour plus watching a talking raccoon.

i still haven't seen it

i honestly have no interest /shrug
You should check it out man, I think you'll like it.

I didn't have any interest in it either, when it was playing in the theaters. I heard all the praise for it, and despite sci-fi movies being some of my favorites, just was not interested in it. But one night a couple months ago I thought "What the hell" so I finally watched it and I really enjoyed it. I can see why it got all the praise it did; it was entertaining as heck and just fun.

I liked it a lot. I didn't go in with any expectations and walked away very entertained. I liked it more than most marvel movies.

A brilliant piece of film? Or even a very good piece of film? Of course not. Entertaining popcorn flick? Absolutely.

You like Avatar, which is a pretty good indicator you have horrible taste in movies.

:p Seriously, it was an entertaining popcorn flick, a slight notch above most other comic-book movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy was a fun and entertaining movie.
Same here. It was great.

I know it's becoming popular to criticize these blockbuster superhero films, but just because they're action films doesn't mean they aren't just good movies.

Guardians was fine. It was a good flick. Great when you add in the coolness of Marvel.

People just like to hate successful things.
