Warning, spoilers below, don't read if you haven't seen it b4.

Ok, so the phantom ghosts were from another planet and lost on earth. so if they were ghosts, how could those guns hurt them? also, what was the ending all about, that guy just reaches up on one of the ghost and then that's it, they all disappear?

wow. you truely weren't paying attention huh.

this is what I understood. i may be wrong, but i'll try.

The ghosts were not from another planet. They were from the planet in the first place, and the people saw them as invaders from another world. They were specialize guns. not with bullets, come on, its the future. You remember that stuff that aki released to see the ghosts. Or how the city had a barrier of that yellow stuff. My assumption is that the guns were from the same material.

aki had the cure. she had the wave. When she reached to that guy as his soul was taken, it was used as a bridge to spread the cure to what was taking him and so on an so on. That caused a chain reaction and let the wave speard to the entire plague....

thats what i'm understanding.

I forget how they got to the earth, was it from a meteor that they crashed from. I'm getting confused since I saw planet of the apes and I can't remember much

danny~!

The phantoms were ghosts from another world which was destroyed in some kind of war (that is what the dream sequences were about).

They got to Earth from that chunk of rock that was blown away from their homeworld and landed on earth.

The end: they were "destroyed" by having an exact opposite wave pattern of their own projected onto themselves. That was what Cid and Aki where trying to do for the entire movie.. get together the 7 sprits that combine and create the wave pattern that they were looking for. When "the guy" reached up and touched the big spirit thing, he was holding onto Aki, who in turn was the person who contained the 7th spirit. It traveled from her, into him, and then into the big red thing.

As for the guns: heck.. its the future. They can do what they want. but remember.. they were not really "destroyed" the spirit was just transferred into another one that was created at the rock thingy.

I was thinking that these alien spirits actually just take over humans and turn them into what we see, and maybe that's why they can be stopped by that energy field and guns.

Near the end when Aki and Grey go after the 7th spirit by Gaia, didn't they lose track of it because the aliens absorbed it or something? So how did it wind up in Aki anyhow?

It's okay if you didn't understand it. They're called plot holes.

That movie was BAD! I can't believe they actually tried to pull off a serious computer generated love scene... what where they thinking!! There was some nice eye candy... but they tried to do too much with the plot...

I didn't think the movie was complicated...

The guns were powered by bioetherial energy.
The phantoms were ghosts from another planet after they basically nuked themselves.
When the guy at the end touched the ghost he touched the alien Gaia ghost (which was on the meteor following the explosion) while linked with Aki thus acting as a vessel for the combined wave.
There was EIGHT waves to combine to make the main wave, not 7.
