It's not as if, assuming the merger goes ahead, that Sears will all of a sudden rebrand its stores, or even the K-Mart stores.

Up here in Canada the Hudson's Bay Company owns both The Bay and Zellers, the former being an up-market Sears and the latter being a K-Mart-type store.

I liked what sears did w/ eatons (before they discontinued it completely) the Eaton's stores were fairly affordable, but looked amazing! At least the ones in Winnipeg did.

They are both dying giants. I say Sears does something like start selling their tools in other places like Home Depot then just let the rest die in peace.

I could see them doing this and slimming down the product line at K-Mart to make them more sucessful. Let's face it, a big cause of K-Mart being crap is because they sell (or try to, at least) low-quality CRAP.

With the Sears bankroll, they could easily get some more name brand lines in there and start generating at least a shred of competition. I mean, if Sears turned K-Mart into a direct competitor to themselves, rather than Target and Walmart, it could be worthwhile. Cripes, KMart is already de-valued as it is, I can't imagine them taking THAT big of a loss (in comparison to income they have) if KMart tanks AGAIN. My guess is that KMart could be "bought" for inside the millions at this point, but as someone pointed out, they have the same majority owner, so a lot of the money would just go right back to him...

You're one of the people I was talking about....you don't have the slightest clue of what you're talking about.
Please explain how is Sears a dying giant ?? They earn a whooping 3.4 billions last year.
If thats dying, buy me a coffin too.

I'll admit, I was only looking at their financial statements so if someone can actually explain why is Sears dying, enlighten me.
Their sales have been increasing slightly for the past 5 yrs.

Anybody want to admit that they buy themselves clothes there?

I've bought clothes there. My self-worth is not reliant on what other people think of me (what brand-names do I wear, how's my hair styled, etc...)
