A rather weird question IMHO opinion, as everyone names their dog or cat, or pet hamster something. And with proper repetition, its a rather dumb animal that does not recognize their name. As the usual human will choose names like spot, or boots, or what ever. But gotta admit, ole shortie is maybe unique with the name cosmic creeper.
But still I can understand shorties motivation perfectly, as I instead named my latest cat Snidley for perhaps similar behavior. And I named one of my better dogs Slurp for her lack of lady like drinking habits. As Slurp was a typical lab, hell on wheels, rude, crude and socially unacceptable for the first three years. Until they mellow out and become wonderful dogs. By about year six, my wife and I could whisper the name Slurp in ordinary conversation and the dog would just give a small wag of the tail. But sadly ill heath finally claimed Slurp after 14 years, I miss the hell out of her but life goes on.
As I say two additional things, never once in her dog life did Slurp ever grasp the concept that the name Slurp was not exactly a humanism complimentary term. As she would have responded equally well to being named washing machine or a kitchen table.
But after that maybe that shortie misses another concept in pet naming. For dog names you need an easily repetitive name, as here slurp slurp slurp rolls off the tongue, as here max or spot works equally well. But cosmic creeper is am epic fail because it does not roll off the tongue. But either Cosmic or creeper would work. As for my cat Snidely, if I say the term Snide in an angry voice, the cat knows her name and I ain't happy with her, but that is the difference between cats and dogs, dogs learn to please you and cats don't care.
