The boss was a CEO of some hotel and resort chain. He worked with four employees of the company for one day each. At the end of the episode, he gives one dude 150k to pay off his mortgage. Plus 50k in cash.

That's more than some people earn in 4 years. It must be nice, to be so loaded you can give someone 200k for a day's work.

I caught part of this. What did he do about the overbooking issue when they tell people it's a maintenance issue? That's about the only part I saw and wanted to know how he fixed it.

And if I worked with that guy I'd be pissed off! I can only imagine the backlash from other employees.

Hmmm :/ quote button is not working for me.

He said they would look into fixing the overbooking issue by an e-mail notification system sent out beforehand. Don't know how exactly they would implement it.

Yeah, I think 200k was excessive. I can understand that it's television and you want to see things out of the ordinary, but that just struck me as going overboard.

I caught the very end of it. If I remember correctly he kept repeating that "Diamond Resorts" would take take of their mortgage, bills, etc.

I highly doubt he'll see any financial repercussions from helping these employees out.

This data is a little bit older but shows 6 month ended filings from June 30,2010
http://*******/z9RNn)

Almost $185 million in revenues (albeit a 4.6 million net loss in the same time)
But with that cash flow and the $$ value of the marketing this show provided, fiscally it isn't a huge deal to them.

I've seen the show a few times but it seems that the employees are not the least bit suspicious when the "new" employee shows up totally unqualified for the job or in need of a haircut.

If I was in charge of training a new hire that looked sketchy I would not get my mortgage paid off because I'd be putting his nose to the grindstone.

It's a little different when you have a camera in your face all day.

It's a freaking infomercial. Someone figured out how to get you to watch an infomercial for a fortune 500 company.

Congrats.

That was probably the CEOS 2 week aviation fuel budget for his LJ85.

That would be the equivalent of you giving an employee some gas money for doing a good job in terms of magnitude.

Joe Six packs gas money as gift to someone = enough to buy lunch.
CEOs gas money as gift to someone = enough to pay off mortgage.
Impact on budget for both gift givers, equivalent.

Lol. Odd to think about, but true. Yeah, I guess it's just not a big thing for these guys :)

I suspect the producers are doling out the money, not the CEO.

If you have overly qualified older man/woman start working on the bottom, you have to wonder who this is.

I think it's definitely the CEO/company's money, because it varies dramatically from company to company. Some of them don't really give out a lot at all, just something like 'a fancy birthday party for your kid', which would probably amount to a few hundred dollars max (usually they also include a promotion/raise in addition to that, but that's not a straight-up money give-out like in the OP, which is pretty damn special).

Sure I was surprised that he gave that much. $150k for the mortgage plus a $50k bonus. I wonder if the recipient has to pay a gift tax for this. Just think how other employees he didn't react with during his "visit" will feel towards him.

Other episodes CEO/Boss either gives them like >$5k, pay their tuition at college, or given them a franchise of the company. Much more realistic.

this.

It's neat for one episode, then you git sick of the cloying, set-up stories. It's pretty obvious these aren't random employees that they are seeing, and everything is rather carefully orchestrated.

I do like, though, the one or two episodes were employees were actually fired (some rather unhappy CSR, hehe).
