did any of you get googles cr48?

I signed up too late apparently. Too bad, it would have been nice since I'm travelling a lot and could have used a lightweight machine to carry around.

nope.

i think you should set up a poll for this question so you can obtain relevant statistics.

theyre still taking sign ups, but you think they are finished giving them out?

just make chrome full screen. CR48. done.

lol..

i'd rather throw my money at a used macbook $400-500 and skip the cloud

With the sign up, there was no money to be thrown...all gratis from Google. I signed up, heard nothing...still love local storage 😀

I must have signed up pretty soon after they announced it. Nothing. The free 3G I wouldn't have minded either.

I was in the first round; heard about the program on December 9 and submitted an application. No feedback, no confirmation, no acknowledgement. A strange box arrived on December 17.

I also have an Acer AA1 running Linux, with Chrome as my preferred browser. I can assure those who think that running Chrome full screen is the same as Chrome OS. An increasing number of things on the Chrome store run on the Cr-48, but not on the Acer (and vice versa).

I like the keyboard and screen, not so much the trackpad (which is overly sensitive and twitchy). A surprising amount of work can be done offline, such as using Scratchpad for writing, or Read Later Fast to save web pages while online, then read them offline.

Bundling Verizon 3G was a brilliant stroke; I tried to minimize 3G usage until the end of the month, then started pounding on it to use up my 100mb before it evaporated. Although WiFi is becoming increasingly ubiquitous, the 3G is a godsend when you are in the boonies. With images turned off, 100mb goes surprisingly far for things like checking e-mail, or grabbing news stories for offline reading.

Despite the emphasis on cloud computing, I hope Google adds more support for local storage as this thing evolves.

Mine showed up yesterday, February 1st. It is a cool little laptop with some neat features. Obviously, it is still a beta product and has some bugs, like the trackpad.

I also think that Android has too much overlap with chromium os, and that might prevent app development on chromium. But, we will have to wait and see.

i thought about signing up when it started but i saw it was only for the states. I thought about applying and using my parent's address in the states but I don't think they'd use it and i didn't want it to just sit around unused until I can make it back there to pick it up.

I have one. Got it about a week before Christmas, signed up a few days after they first announced the pilot program.

It has pretty much replaced my netbook for home and school. I think I've used my netbook once since getting the cr48.

I just got mine yesterday in the mail. I signed up the day I they announced the program. So far I'm enjoying it. I use it for school right now.

Got mine last week. I think I signed up late Nov or early Dec.

As to the trackpad complaints, turning the sensitivity down helps a bunch. Two finger clicking for right click is a little tough, but ALT+Click does the same thing.

This form factor for a laptop with an i3 or a SU7300 would be awesome.

trackpad makes or breaks the unit. why the apple rocks. i'd take a pos macbook over the best (other o/s).

good analogy:

old passive winmo6.5 screen versus iphone4 capacitive screen - light years advanced. makes the iphone - breaks the winmo phone. all over one simple detail.

and apple doesn't spend big bucks on the touchpad - it's all in the drivers.

Mine came in the mail yesterday.

I agree with the track pad. The two finger scroll sometimes is smooth, other times it jumps all around the page. Not to mention that my right wrist will rest on it while typing, causing the cursor to go nuts.

Otherwise, I really like it and can definitely see it replacing my HP netbook.

I've gotten a lot better with the trackpad since I got it. Now I can't go back to normal laptop trackpads :\
