Question Did AMD stop making CPUs?

How should AMD solve this problem?

Serious question. I'm thinking something happened and they just stopped making them. They are all GONE everywhere. Not a single one to be found that isn't from a scalper. I've never seen this before from any CPU release. It has to be either 100% COVID related or they just decided to get out of the CPU game and make T-shirts instead. I don't buy this "derp demand" argument for a second. This spoiled 1st world baby wants his damn bottle and he wants it NOW!

You should try becoming a youtuber or something… they all get the nice things first.

On a serious note: those probably sell so darn fast you aren't clicking page refresh quick enough!

I thought everyone went with Intel for server even if the Intel chips are hot, slow, overpriced garbage. Isn't that right? AMD could have a chip twice as fast with half the power and half the cost but for some odd reason people buy Intel for server anyway, right? Reliability and ecosystem or some crap. Am I wrong?

You just didn't hear about AMD's deal with McDonalds...

"Now included in a Happy Meal, FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!"

Meanwhile, Intel has struck a deal to include 10th-Gen Pentium CPUs inside Cracker Jack boxes... in an effect to claw back market-share.

Edit: Yeah, /s

AMD isn't willing to commit to buying that many wafers just yet.

Were are those assembled?
Like the TSMC wafer limitations might be the last of issues if they have and hard time putting all those complex parts together at reasonable speed/quality.
Multiple die is cool but less practical than place one and lid it… now imagine you have 9 of them.

LOL, no, they aren’t totally gone. I’ve got a 5800x and 5950x in my build. But, you are correct, the supply issue is a major issue for AMD. I had a few battles back a year for more ago with several members who claimed Intel was going to be “curb stomped” and all these over the top BS that was hilarious.

Either way, keep searching and you can find the CPUs. They are out there! I'm working on my build and hope to have it finalized tomorrow.

I'm almost positively sure than when Athlons 64 X2 were first released in 2005 demand was so high that they were nowhere to be found for a while (Not a paper launch, there were people that actually got their hands on them).

I remember that. I was lucky enough to grab an X2 3500+ at release, and ended up going BACK to my Athlon XP M 2500+ because the nForce3 chipsets for the AMD64 chips were too buggy.

Edit: there's several people listing 5800X CPUs here in FS/FT...

OK well it went from "checkout is now open" to "backordered" in the same instant. That's definitely bot action at work. I better stop talking now because my mind is starting to go to medieval solutions to fix this "bot" problem.

Yeah the bots have gotten out of hand on the GPU and CPU purchasing this past year from reports I've heard/read. It's bad enough when dealing with limited stocks and high demand but you can't 'outclick' a checkout bot.

I'm probably going to get a 10700K instead. Only $350 and good enough. Screw it.

EDIT: OMG I just reserved a 10700K at Microcenter for $280! $300 out the door. Wow that's a lot better than almost $500 for similar performance. Whew! This poor man shall rejoice.

Solid deal if you live near a Microcenter.

Hadn't purchased the motherboard already, I assume? Intel still makes a good chip, of course.

I also reserved an MSI carbon Z490 for $270, which is retail price I think. Newegg is charging $350 for it. Ima just grab a 32 gig kit and an M.2 drive and I'll be done. Yeah, when I saw $280 I couldn't believe it. That's old school discount i5 pricing. I feel much better having not spent $500 on a CPU. Feels good! Thank God for Intel being the value leader and always looking out for the gamer's best interests.

Priority right now is OEM, Enterprise, Consoles and consumer last.

Best chance of getting a cpu is local pickup that is how I scored one anyone waiting for shipping well will be waiting.

Congrats on the 10700K

You got the same CPU and board I did. I went Intel because they had the best single threaded speed last summer, and I had free time to do this at that point. If you're mainly gaming then the CPU doesn't matter that much anyway, and you can use the $200 you saved to pay a scalper for an overpriced video card. :p

That's the spirit! Give generously!

Televangelists need to start hawking GPUs. I can see (what's-his-name, that fallen disgraced pastor and his wife that dressed like a whore)... Hawking "computer money-making machines... MAKE MONEY OUT OF THIN AIR... (and send it to me)".

Got the stuff. Done and done. It's kind of sad because I was finally going to go with AMD, but it is what it is.
