did AMD slash prices today? if not when?

i want a new Duron system and thought they had slashed prices today. i haven't seen any mention of it. anyone know?

I haven't seen an announcement posted anywhere, but I just checked the updated cpu price listing here, and they have big price drops across almost the whole line of AMD processors.
Don't know if this is THE price drop, or just an interim drop in anticipation of the official announcement.😕

Those drops aren't big at all. 🙁 $10 off a AMD 900 T-bird. C'mon.

I certainly hope it's not the anticipated drop we've been hearing about.

1GHz down $46
950 down $29
900 down $15
850 down $41
800 down $19

No these aren't massive drops. But given the lack of serious competition right now, AMD isn't under any pressure to make major price concessions. They may well announce significant cuts, but to expect every price reduction to be 25% to 50% is unrealistic, I think we will see many more 10% cuts. Are we really going to complain about $387 for a 1GHz processor? Or maybe you would prefer to pay Intel $699. Come on!
Bottom line is that AMD as any company is in business to make money, not cheap processors. But somehow, they seem to be able to do both!

darn. i was hoping the duron 700 would get a 20 dollar cut or so. guess not. oh well, guess i'll order tomorrow or so.........now all i need to find a place that has alpha PAL 0635s.

ingenue007,
Saw you hoped the price would drop more on the Duron 700. Remember that I said we haven't seen any official word from AMD yet. It just seems to me that we are seeing some bigger than usual drops on pricewatch for no apparent reason.
The earlier rumors of big price drops had mentioned the Tbird 850 going down to $165. The low on pricewatch is now $161!
The Durons have not moved much at all. But with the prices where they are now there can't be a whole lot of profit margin left to play with.
The only thing I can see is if they discontinue the 600 and 650 as Lynn Computers is talking about.
When AMD introduces the Duron 800 this month, they could announce that the 600 and 650 are being discontinued. This would give room to lower the price for the 700 since it would be the bottom of the rung. Then you could see your $20 drop to $54 (where the 650 is now).😀

Rumors and speculation, don't they drive you crazy!!!!!

As far as your PAL6035 goes, ColdCPU has a post that AlphaUSA doesn't expect any until the end of October (or later).🙁
I don't know of anyone who has them in stock now.

Good luck!🙂

New prices at tcwo.

Tbirds:

1GHz $283
1.1 GHz $371
1.2GHz $492

Just for a comparison, PIII 1GHz $677 low price on pricewatch.

😀

Edit: Rudee, these prices are getting closer to what you wanted to see and we still haven't heard anything official from AMD!

so thats a pricing error? three weeks, i get my phat paycheck, im buying one if its still that price!

Is this TCWO place reliable? I never heard of them. Or JCShopper. They have lowest price on 1GHz Tbird right now. Any comments?

Zak

How can you say that AMD processor's were not cut down all that much? 1 week ago a Thunderbird 900 cost $254 at cheapest...now it's at $179. That is a crazy drop. Go eat'em up people before there are none left.

Where did you get this info about "half the price of current prices" by post-christmas? That would not be a logical business approach by AMD since they have announced for a shortage of processors sometime next year. People would gobble processors up at an exponential rate if prices dropped that low, thus putting more of an immense strain on production. But perhaps AMD has a trick up its sleeve, they often do 🙂, so we will have to wait and see. Thanks for that info though, hopefully it is from a good source.

I just checked the tcwo site and the new prices are posted on the home page as well as on the AMD price list page!
Duron prices are not dropping as fast, although they do have a good price on the 750, $89.

🙂
