Did a sudo update to Firefox 3.6 and got Namoroka installed instead, WTF?

I saw that the new Firefox 3.6 was being advertised, so I did a terminal update using my favorite sudo command and it didn't seem to do anything. Hmmm....then update manager popped up with new installs and I okayed everything. On next boot, I see Namoroka installed on my machine and my Firefox buttons all updated to the Namoroka "blue marble Earth" icon.

But to tell you the truth, I kind of like Namoroka. It is quick loading like Google Chrome and seems more responsive on my old P4 2.8 GHz system than other Firefox 3.5.9.

I know, but I'd prefer to get the non-experimental version of FF 3.6 instead of the experimental 3.6.5 Namoroka. Otherwise, I would have stuck to good old 3.5.9, since I am in a production environment and don't want to us a RC candidate.

All it did was keep the development name of firefox, at least that is how it is done in Arch Linux. This does not mean that it is experimental. As for the version numbers, if you really have 3.6.5 installed then it is definitely a development version, because the stable version is 3.6.3

Did you have to enable a special repository to get it? The official Ubuntu repos does not have developmental software I believe. If you did enable an unofficial repo to get it, disable it, uninstall firefox and then install again from the official repos.

Jodell88, I am, in comparison to you, a Linux n00b. I only followed some instructions off of the official Ubuntu forums on how to update my local install of Firefox. I'll look over it again tomorrow during the light of day (it is after all, 4:00 AM my local time) and get back to you on what happened. Good night.

According to packages.ubuntu.com the current version of Firefox is 3.5.9, if you've got 3.6.5 then you installed that yourself.

Yeah, Namoroka shows up as 3.6.5pre on my system. How do I get back to the stable version?

I have been using 3.6.5 Pre on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS,no issues to speak of,very stable IMHO.

Btw you can remove it via Synaptic Package Manager.
