i was installing my newly purchased ax-7 ... and the screwdriver came off a few times while pressure was on the clip. It didn't seem like i did any serious damage from the feel of it.. and inspecting the mobo itself..

but now...

every like 2 minutes or so... my computer will just pause for about 10 seconds... then resume. It's driving me nuts... is this a direct result of the stabbing or could it be something else? it was working perfectly fine before this, and i know for a fact it's only happening after i replaced the heatsink

idle temp
cpu: 35c
case: 36c

It very well could be due to the screwdriver "stabbing". Afterall, it is sensitive electronic equipment :(

I did the same thing once with needle-nose pliers, and killed the integrated video (no agp slot) on my brand new mb.
It's always best to place something (like a business card) next to your zif-socket, under the retaining clip of the hsf, just to provide some protection when this sort of thing could happen, it's very cheap insurance!
Only cost me $96. to learn it, then another $86. to replace the mb I ruined!

Try remounting the heatsink. (This time a little more carefully) Make sure u wipe off any AS3 thats on or around the chip. On a couple occasions my computer wouldn't boot after installing a heatsink, but removal/cleaning/reattatching the heatsink fixed the problem.
Hope this helps.

Did you move any pci cards around in the process? Maybe an IRQ conflict? Have you tried reseting CMOS / clearing it?

hunhyung when mounting that heat sink, use a screwdriver that provides a PERFECT fit and it WILL NOT slip out! I know because I had the same problem until I used the proper size screwdriver.

Or check to see if you have that Microsoft patch in. Check the sticky on OS forums. Just a thought.

as we all know... computers can be very fickle and unpredictable..

it just started worKing OK on its own... i don't know how and i don't know why... but i really don't care as long as it's working fine now.
