Not a speed runner. I intentionally goofed around a bit for fun and went for some unnecessary items. Died at least once.

I remember playing this when I was a kid, we beat the game and my friend said that he wanted to beat it as well. So we got to the last boss in the game with the 99 power wings and I swear this guy used around 60 of them before he was finally able to kill bowser.

The game lets you hold 28 items (4 pages, 7 items on each page).., but I know what you mean!

The Japanese version of SMB3 is more difficult, and there is no magic P-wing reward for completing the game (you have to reset).

I personally have never beaten the fortress in the final world, I always used the cloud you get from beating world 2 to skip past it.

That was how he and I used to do it until we got tired of playing far enough through the game to get a Jugem's Cloud (Lakitu's Cloud). We finally just figured that we'd better learn it and, with a bit of trial and error, we did. I remember being very frustrated by that stage at first though!

I feel you. By the time you got through World 2 it was worth playing half of World 3 to get to the mushroom house bonanza.

I always wanted to beat Bowser as a hammer brother but I can never make it through his castle without getting hit.
