What do you call subsidizing farmers, bailing out the big 3 motor companies, and giving free vacation/bonus money to executives of financial institutions? God forbid anybody calling that socialism.

Harvey, marlin, retrospooty and whatever morons I missed...

I'm not agreeing with Dick. In fact, I disagree with much of what he wrote, but he made very specific measurable predictions that reflect much of what criticism has been brought forth towards Obama. So here will be our opportunity to see if he's right or wrong.

Your beyond rediculous... Your paranoid, delusional post doesn't even deserve a full explanation of how totally wrong you are. I hope Obama gives your job to a gay, black, socialist, racist , midget.
You specifically I want to call out. Don't misquote me you piece of shit.

Then why bother? Morris is a mindless putz, and anything on spewsmax is questionable. I want my 30 seconds back.

I've seen nothing in Obama's agenda that jibes with socialism and while the author of the OP's article (link?) seems to enjoy the act of baseless speculation via his crystal ball, I seriously doubt any of the things described will come to fruition. In other words, the rabid wing-nuts seem to enjoy screaming "socialism" merely to hear their own shrill voices, not on any basis in reality.

I guess it'll be interesting to see if any of this FUD comes true, and yet I won't exactly be holding my breath.

^ Fern, that's just a sad response. Reagan raised taxes and spending, Morris is out to lunch with his analysis because it isn't actually based in reality (is this really Dick Morris btw, because if so it's pretty pathetic). And as a financial professional, you know damn well the banking system won't be nationalized, we have many banks that don't need bailouts and many of the big are already locked into long-term loans. Why would Obama suddenly change all that, he's no economist. It's just asinine to think he's going to entirely nationalize the banking system, and any such extreme scenario would be temporary in the first place (much like nationalizing the railroads during WWII).

Also, what part of stimulus package to jumpstart confidence in the economy can be construed as a socialist guise to raise the national debt when the overwhelming consensus among economists is that a package is necessary in the first place? Bush supported these same plans and raised national debt into the trillion territory for the first time in history last year. Bush was no socialist by any stretch. Fairness doctrine "support" has been debunked again, and again, and again. It's not going to happen in its previously proposed form, get over that paranoia when the reality says Fairness Doctrine hasn't actually happened, oh and of course the clamoring for it to happen is virtually nil (though I'd love see examples).

I'll agree, except for the part about Reagan raising taxes. He did raise taxes in the form of payroll taxes, but top income taxes were cut drastically during his tenure. Joe and Joan sixpack paid more, while the true Reagan/Bush constituency paid less, a lot less...

http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/250.html

And the whole bit about FDR prolonging the depression is a hoot, and an effort on the Right to have it both ways in the current situation- Denying the initiatives of their own President and Sec of the Treasury and attempting to put it off on Dems, who've been in office, what? 2 days... and, uhh, don't forget the FRB, not exactly a hotbed of socialism...

Man up, al. Whether you meant to or not, your original post and title were prime troll meat.

I really thought you'd lost your damn mind. :(

Huh?

Sorry, I went back and read the article you posted... And I dont see a point. If you dont agree, why post the spewed crap? Nowhere in your post do you call out the article for being a rediculous mess of paranoia... So, what is your point then?

Jhhnn, you are of course right about Reagan, I was merely saying he did eventually raise taxes (much like GHWB reluctantly had to). Reagan of course contributed to the growing gap in income distribution by giving more corporate tax cuts, sadly.

In terms of FDR, I wouldn't say his New Deal really helped to drag the U.S. out of the doldrums, I'd argue that the Fed merely dropped the ball by doing nothing and didn't change course to active monetary policy in time to stem the deepening depression and destroyed confidence in equity, which lasted decades afterwards. I would argue that, in the end, the New Deal instituted many necessary institutions (SEC, FDIC, etc.), and those are clearly needed to keep financial markets in check and maintain confidence, respectively.

Whatever - the title was from the article, not mine, I always post the article title as the thread title. Don't believe me? Go check my post history. Dick's stuff is definitely partisan so I edited it down rather than post the whole article.

But I just couldn't resist the gilded quote, it's my favorite so far of 2009 :)

Lol, al, to the contrary, the botched "gilded" metaphor at the beginning was when Dick lost all credibility for me. Aside from everything else -- you know, the hsterical, red-faced nonsense part -- the dude can't even get his second-hand allusions right.

He started out pathetically, and went straight down hill from there.

By the time he is finished, Latinos and African-Americans will cast a combined 30 percent of the vote

I love how this is presented to the Republican base as a bad thing. Any loss of White Power= bad.

Edit.... To elaborate, I think simple demographics means the above will happen no matter what Obama does. The fact that Republicans are fighting it shows how really out of touch some white conservatives have become. How do they expect to ever win elections again if they only cater to a future minority demographic?

When? That's a good one. Mr Morris obviously doesn't understand the nature of our problems.

From unserviceable debt to massive dead beats the only way to 'fix' things is a grand flush. The Jews used to do it every 7 years where the ancient Hebrews would cancel debts every 7 years under Mosaic law and we will have to do the same. Losers of wars and even roman Ceasers sometimes did it. Basically you cancel all govt debt and reset all debts owed to every one, every business and every where to zero! Mortgages would be paid, car loans and credit card debts eliminated and paper derivative debts wiped out. A new currency would born and be reset back to a pre-determined GDP and the banking system and national treasury would be revitalized and re-capitalized. Then you give everyone a check to get started all over again.

I believe that was 50 years, the Year of Jubilee.

The only questionable outcome in this piece is that of the FD...and as someone said above the leadership in the Dem party wants this to happen...so who knows.

Everything else I see as either going to happen, or already happening...so why so many regard this as a buch of chicken little is beyond me.
