Diarrhea on hardwood floors

One of the the dogs had an accident on the hallway hardwood floors last night. By the time I woke up, it was dry. I cleaned it the best I can and set up a fan, but the smell is still there a few hours later.

What is the best way to really clean the floors (including in the cracks, where there probably is some left over) without ruining the finish?

Don't try to blame it on the dogs. We are your friends, and we will not laugh about your anal leakage.

There was a recent thread here in OT about cat urine,,, or getting the smell of cat piss out of something. There were some links posted in that thread to some cleaners for pets. I think the cat thread was a few days ago, maybe a week ago?

Baking soda takes care of the smell AFAIK.. but I am not sure about using that on hardwood floor. I'll let someone else chime in on that.

Whatever you use, I'd use the shop vac to get the moisture out of the cracks. It will pop the finish if you leave it.

Linoliem or tile over the floor be done with it forever. I don't understand people's obsession with hard wood floors when they're inferior in almost every way to every other type of flooring.

Because they look awesome, if taken care of. Ours are 75 years old. Just had 3 rooms refinished. Quartersawn oak, FTW.

i prefer the look and feel of hardwood flooring over tile/ linoleum. that said, i have concrete floors in my house, shale tile in the kitchen/ bath areas, carpet in the living areas. id love wood flooring, but over concrete it loses the feel, and the pergo type fake wood flooring usually looks cheap.

Put the dog outside where it belongs. That would fix that problem.
Anyone else think this guy is one of the worst posters at atot? Everything he says is some sort of negative snooty comment that really doesn't even make much sense. I feel that he is the embodiment of all that sucks about elitist nerds on the internet.

Anyway as for the stain I would say try murphys oil wood soap. Stuff is pretty good for odors and it won't harm your floor.

Eh?

Tile cracks and chips, the grout can stain, and it's cold under foot. Carpet is a germ and allergen trap. Linoleum is just low class in most instances...even the good stuff. Good hardwood floors look good for years and not as...cold/clinical as tile.

But that really had nothing to do with the topic at hand. I agree with the baking soda idea. Toss some of that down and let it sit a bit, then vaccum it up.

Might want to try it in a corner..under a mat first just incase it does something funking to the finish on the flooring.

I use windex and paper towels on my hardwood floors. As long as they are sealed properly it is fine. This is what the guy that installed recommended.

You could try some of that orange oil cleaner, and a razor blade between the cracks ( though you would have to be extremely careful).

Bleach cleaner for stink and disinfectant then murphys oil to protect it after hard chamical clean. Bits of dog poop, especially if liquid, can damage your wood long after you thought you cleaned it. So, bleach that floor then oil it up.
