Edit: too quick with my clicking...

I thought you guys had come to the conclusion that you are not yet ready for marriage...that you both have some growing up to do. Do you know where she's matched?

My fiancee's ring was bought through Mervis. I would buy from them again. I bought the diamond online (www.diamondideals.com) and had the setting custom made. I would recommend going the same route if I were you. Also, you might check out www.diamondtalk.com for more info. Feel free to PM me with questions.

In order to continue my hardware addiction, I had to bribe the wife with a diamond. I got a great deal and a quality cut at abazias.com.

I am starting to shop for a diamond engagement ring too... Anyone wanna share their experiences? Specifically I am looking for what kind of prices people paid to ensure I don't get ripped off...

I am looking at 1 carat, good cutting and near colorless diamond...

1 carat, H color, VS2 clarity, GIA certified, excellent cut - $4400. Pulled from pricescope.com. A setting would cost you from $200 - $2000+ depending on the materials.

Whatever you do, don't shop at a mall jeweler. They will use certificates from questionable labs to make you think that you diamond is better than it is. You will pay top dollar for a substandard diamond.

Right now I'm looking at Round Cut .90-1.15 carat H-I color VS2, and Very Good-Excellent Cut. The setting I'm looking at is going to cost $1500 in platinum, or $850 is platinum-dipped white gold. I've seen diamonds that fit the bill from $3600+.

I'm wondering if anyone has the hook up for better deals. I have some time... 3 months+

Also, does anyone with experience know the different between the different grades... I looked at a E color next to a J/K color the other day, and you know I could barely see a difference.

You're not going to find a better deal than the usual internet sites. Believe me, I spent months trying. Try whiteflash and any other dealer listed on pricescope. My opinion: I would get a slightly better color (F - G) and downgrade your clarity to SI1. The majority of SI1 stones are still completely eye-clean (no visible blemishes). You will notice the color with the naked eye, though, especially after you've looked at a few diamonds in person. I ended up getting an E, and H-I stones look like crystallized urine in a side-by-side comparison. In general, I think that it's better to pay for what you can see rather than what you can't. Just my opinion.

Good luck!
