I decided to buy Diamond Viper X1950 Pro and also bought Antec Smartpower 500w. I tried to install the card and it doesn't power on at all. I look at the manual book because I remember my X850 card needs power connection to power supply and the manual didnt say about what molex is for I figure it might be a power connection so I plug it in and turn on pc then the card was on fire!
I am disappointed I am going to take it back tomorrow and get another card.
So I take it all X1950 Pro do not have a power connection?

Yes they all require the power connection. PCI-E usually with dual molex adapter or just dual molex like the Sapphire X1950 Pro AGP. Good luck with the new card, I'd be careful with that power supply.

I spoke with tech support and he said that it needs 550 or up power supply to work with the card He gave me RMA but I went to Diamond Headquarter and got new card I showed him with Antec Smartpower 500 watts he said that PSU should work fine but I told him that new PSU damaged the card he was like suprised and he checked with old one and confirmed that the card is shorted by design and he tested new card with my antec PSU worked fine and i took home and worked perfectly!!!

IIRC the Diamond X1950pro AGP is identical to the Sapphire model, it should have worked fine with the 500 watter.

did you have both of the molex connectors hooked up to the card?

Ha. I like it.

Have a problem with a video card and go straight to the manufacturers headquarters for answers.

I could just imagine Rottie storming into a board meeting, X1950 in hand and throwing it like a frisbee at the CEO demanding "Whatcha gonna do 'bout this?"

OK, so it probably wasn't quite like that, but still........ :D

Why you didn't buy HIS 512mb X1950PRO for $160 after $20 MIR rebate?
For $250 you should buy 7950GT 512mb .

Sorry I didn't check with AT before I bought it and I did not think anyone will answer my question.

Today I went to Curcuit City store and saw Visiontek HD2600 Pro 256MB AGP (I think the right name) sells for 129.00 I wonder if I should take it back and get this one but I don't know if HD2600 Pro is any good? Faster than X1950 Pro? I don't play much FPS (due to headache) I only play Madden and Civ4..Is HD2600 Pro worth for me?

If you can stick with the X1950Pro, it is considerably faster than any 2600 series card.

It's exactly the same as the sapphire. I had to return my first one probably due to poor contact between the HSF and GPU.

If the OP didn't plug in the second connector or if the second connector is broken off :Q then it definitely won't be working correctly

If his burst into flames like he claims I would say that it was broken off then....

In 10 years of repairing and selling PC's I've never seen a video card just burst into flames for no good reason...or even if a dodgy PSU was involved (the PSU usually bursts into flames long before the rest of the PC does)....

unless AMD has started using old T-bird's as GPU's :p

Lol

I had a PSU on my old PIII 500 blow a capcitor. Nice big bang with smoke out of the back. The capacitor casing that fell out of the PSU looked like a crushed beer can :p

I am not sure if I am mistake about molex After google search to make sure I understand what is the difference between Molex and PCIe connector but I look at my Viper X1950 Pro the connector, it has one 6 pin PCIe connector....It doesn't have 4 pin molex connector. Sorry for the confusion.

I hope so! But I can upgrade whole system in 2 years so I will switch to mobo with PCIe.
