Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value
Diamond SupraMax USB external modem

Sometimes when I am logged onto the internet, the I can surf perfectly fine but after somtime, the data transfer stops although I am still logged on and the mouse cursor becomes wriggly and the system becomes sluggish. Then I have to manually disconnect and this takes a long time and reconnect again.
I have already updated the latest driver and firmware. Please help. Thanks.

I have 2 usb ports. One is specially for the modem, the other is for the keyboard. The keyboard itself has 2 more usb hub, so the usb mouse is daisy chained throught the keyboard. Is it a USB port problem?? The modem is getting irritating, can u help me??

Actually don't install that usb filter, as it's only used to enable the functionality of usb port under win95, not for win98 as it already has built in support. I have the exactly the same modem, often when your system becomes sluggish you will notice that your cpu usage is near 80-100%(if you whip out the sysmon).

I think it's due to the power management of via chipset, definitely not the modem's drivers/firmwares. The problem is that the chipset fails to deliver enough current to charge up the modem(By disconnecting the modem, the charge is leaked out and reconnecting recharges it, providing a smoothed voltage for the modem to function properly). My advice is try not to use the modem the same time as the usb mouse, as it only makes the problem occur more frequently.

VIA USB Filter Driver Confusion. According to the VIA FAQ page that was recently pulled from the VIA web site, "The USB Filter Driver adds support for USB devices to all VIA chipsets for all Windows USB capable Operating Systems except Windows 95 B & C. For Windows 95 B & C, use the native drivers". The new VIA web site no longer contains an explanation.
Please Note:

According to John Gatt of VIA Technical Support, the USB Filter Driver should not be installed on systems running Win98 or newer operating systems. (05-21-2001)
The Old VIA Q & A (recently pulled from the VIA web site) had this to say about the VIA USB Filter Driver:
Q: Are there any USB drivers for Windows 95?
A: We do not have any drivers for Win 95 because of it's limited USB support. For the best USB performance, we suggest upgrading to Windows 98 or later. If you want to continue using Win 95, we suggest using the default drivers. You must have Win 95 OSR2 version or later.
Confused about the USB Filter Driver? Me too! The information is quite contradictory.
What to Do - Installing the USB Filter Driver - Yes or No

Try to get your system working without installing the USB Filter
Follow all of the troubleshooting steps
After completing all other steps and installing appropriate patches, if USB is still not working, install the USB Filter Driver
The USB Filter Driver is NOT included in the 4 in 1 Driver File. The 4 in 1 Driver must be installed before the USB Filter Driver.
The Following is an exact copy of the download information for the USB Filter Driver v.1.08 from the VIATech Web Site. Please note the applicable Operating Systems.
>>

BTW,i installed it with no problems on my Win98 OS1,btw also then it was recommended to install it, now well it`s 50/50 & still not clear.

Hi, the modem is really troubling me! Is there a way to let it co-exist with my USB kb and mse (thats me a sucker for all things new).
