I need some advice, they're for our anniversary. I'd like to keep it under or around $1k.

All the diamonds I've bought have come from Blue Nile. Cheaper than retail, proper certifications, and no tax.

Fancy jewelry stores have this apparatus where you put a loose diamond down this tube thingy, and you can see how sparkly the stone will be.

But at $1k for the stones and settings and mounting, just do some comparison shopping and bargain to drive the price down.

You can probably find some jewelry exchange fliers online. They have a lot of uncertificated stones and lower prices to match. You can probably take those prices and try to bargain from there.

Standard ATOT "diamonds kill African babies" reply.

I have a local jewelry store I go to that I like quite a bit. I've bought all my jewelry for my wife from there.

IMO, go to a store and find the ones you like the most. There's a lot of individual preference there.

Don't buy retail. Buy on the secondary market and save money. It's a bit more of a hassle to get an appraisal but you can get steep discounts. You can get a pretty box anywhere, or drop them into her champain glass. SO won't know the diff.

Bue Nile. Code SUMMER13 gets yout 10% off until 6/19 (midnight EDT).

See what $1K will buy you at Blue Nile. See what it'll get you at a local shop. The choice will be obvious.

Shipping will be very fast, but someone will need to sign for $1K item.

I'm tempted to do this but shipping says it will get here tomorrow in one place and friday in another place on their site. I'd need to have it arrive tomorrow as we are leaving Friday for a weekend getaway. I'll have to call them.

I like it more than blue nile, but they each have diff styles.
Just checked there and they have a 0.25ct pendant for the same price as a 0.5ct pendant from Blue Nile. Tough to make an exact comparison because JA doesn't list the specifics about the diamond like BN does, but the BN diamond was pretty good quality so the JA would have to be pretty close to flawless in order to justify the price increase.

I ended up going to Mervis, their prices were pretty good and I don't have to worry about intercepting the package before my wife sees it.
