Diamond Rio 500 Win XP compatibility?

Hello, one of my friends has a Rio 500, and I'm having problems getting it to work with her Win XP machine. It worked fine using the software that came with it on Win ME. I downloaded the newest software off of the manufacturer's site, and the software cannot "see" the device. Also, the computer plays a sound when the Rio is turned off or on, so it would appear that the computer knows when it is connected or disconnected. Is there anything special I need to do to make it work with XP?
