Diamond MX300 and Asus A7V

I recently got an Asus A7V and an Athlon 1.1. My problem is that my good 'ol Diamond MX300 doesn't seem to be working. I know the MX300 is about 4 years old and I should probably invest in a new soundcard, but who want's to spend the money if they don't absolutely have to? Anyway, does anybody know about any incompatibilities between the MX300 or any Aureal cards and the Asus A7V? Or do I just have a bad driver install?

depends on the OS ...win2000 and XP drivers were kinda iffy, not sure what drivers you are using but get the latest ones here...LINK

I think that one is a VIA chipset.....I am not familiar, but if you go to Vortex Of Sound, they would have the definitive answer and any drivers/patches you will need.

Good Luck...same cards in my rig and does everything I need it to.

If you do find you need to upgrade I have been looking into Philips Acoustic Edge (there is a slightly lesser one for $10 cheaper without a SPDIF (or whatever 🙂) input), or the TB Santa Cruz

I'm running Windows 2000. I just read somewhere that there is a conflict between VIA KT133A based motherboards and Aureal cards. But I'm still hoping to find some way around so I don't have to replace the card.

I have never had any problems with vortex 2 chips in kt133a's. But, the win 2000 and xp drivers are a crap shoot, I have never had much luck but others have.

I had luck with the mx300 in w2k, but not in xp. For xp, i had to use wpcrset to get it to work. Just follow the directions at Vortex of Sound.

I got it working with wpcrset but now the sound is full of static, and sounds pretty crappy. Anybody got any ideas about how to cure this?

Yup, go get a board with support for win2000 and XP. I am/was a big fan of aureal, and the vortex 2, although A3D 2.0 still owns anything creative labs has even thought about making, the mx300 has unfortunetaly seen its day 🙁

Well, I have an MX300 working just fine on a system with the KT333 chipset, I didn't even need to install any drivers *AT ALL* Windows 2000 automatically installed everything, and I do mean everything, there is to install. I didn't even see a single popup appear in the 2 times I installed Windows 2000 on that system. Hell, even my NIC had to prompt me for drivers...this thing is idiot proof at least on my system.
