DIAMOND HD 4870 X2 2GB $464 AR/FS/CB - ends 09/28

Yes I was just about to ask the same thing. And what is the deal with warranty and rebates? And how does the live cashback thingie work?

in that case you'd better skip. I've read some bad stories about Diamond's rebate process. Recently there were also stories of Diamond selling batches of defective 3870/3850's (manufactured at substandard plants) without proper quality checks, and now is recalling the cards.

Hmm, I think I'll pass. Diamond's recent QC problems and the fact that graphics cards hold onto their value worse than my three week old diarrhea is discouraging. $36 9600 GSO FTW!

Man that is a shame about Diamond. A decade ago, back in the early 3D accelerator days, their cards were among the best. I remember buying two Diamond VooDooII 12MB cards for SLI after reading rave reviews about the original VooDoo...those cards were awesome and I never had a bit of trouble out of them.

If you're happy with a 9600 GSO then why even open a thread about a high end card? Who buys computer parts based on resale value? You either need it/want it or you don't.

I believe that Diamond is the one that owned up to the manufactuting problem and made good on the cards as GOOD vendor should. If you are worried about QC then be sure and stay away from ALL nvida products.... right?

Based on the current market price this is a good deal on a great product

They all do.. LOL..

Certainly, that's great that they owned up to it. No company is immune to having problems; it's how they take care of it that's important (I agree there).

However, I'd prefer to see Diamond offer a longer warranty, especially on cards this pricey. If they could justify the 1 year warranty by pricing their products significantly less that would be one thing, but unless you catch a rebate or sale their prices are comparable to those of vendors with longer warranties. Diamond may supply just as good of a card, but that extra peace of mind means a lot on an expensive item IMO.

Right on . Why companies don't offer long term warranties is beyond me... bad marketing.

Perhaps you don't know this

if you buy with a premium credit card [like visa "gold"], the CC company adds an extra year to the manufacturer's warranty

that said, i already have my Visiontek 4870x2 i got just after release for $469 from BB
- it runs really hot, but is very very fast

Ahh... 😛

Yes, I have at least a couple of Platinum cards...but why should I have to rely on them as a second resort when I can get a lifetime warranty from other manufacturers? EVGA, BFG, XFX, etc. get a nod from me for supplying lifetime warranties without making the end user rely on their credit card when they encounter an issue with their card.

Visiontek = good but if I bought a Diamond card I'd definitely make sure it was purchased with a card that extended the warranty...just in case. Not taking anything away from Diamond products, just making sure I have a means to resolution in the event that I experience a failure. 🙂 These cards are too expensive to deal with a 1 year warranty IMO.
