Diamond 56k external modem.

Can anybody tell me which jack is which on the back of that modem? They're not labelled line-in or phone. Strangely mine seems to work with either one but I WANT TO KNOW.

My modem is a serial connection but I'm sure the same applies to the USB version. Thanks.

Take a look at Diamond's technical support pages to see if you can find a diagram of your particular modem. That should let you know for sure.

Oh don't think I didn't try that. I've been all over Diamond's tech support. I've downloaded a 1+ mb PDF manual - nothing there. Looked all over for a simple (and yes, christ, it should be simple) diagram, and sent an email to techsupport, that came back particularly NON-helpful.

That's why I've came here. Somebody out here must know, or still have the install guide that came with the modem.

There isn't a even a little tiny picture on the back or the bottom of the modem showing a phone and a phone jack? That's surprising. Which model modem do you have?

Not the slightest indication of anything Hender. No picture - no nothing.

It's the SUP2730 model.

And yes, it does seem to connect either way, but I'm also trying to track down the source of a bad internet connection, so knowing which one it's SUPPOSED to be plugged into would be helpful. Of course this problem existed even before when I was using a PCI modem so the modem itself is not the problem, I just don't know why in the hell they didn't put some kind of indication on it.

Diamond tech (Sonic) sent me an email saying if you look closely it should be marked.
YES it SHOULD be but it's NOT!

Somebodies got to have one or the install guide sitting in a box somewhere.

I have the USB version. I'm pretty sure it works either way. I've never been able to figure it out either.

I have been using that same modem for over a year. Mine is not marked. Works great in either jack. I don't think that this is your problem.

I have had the Supra Express 56k external for a 3+ years. In the manual it said either jack could be used from line to modem and either could be used modem to phone. I think its pretty d@mn convenient.

Edit: i'll try to track down my manual and give it a scan

Edit #2: I got a scan, if you really want it i'll send it to you, but if a word for word quote works, here goes:

Plug one end of the provided phone cable into either of the modem's phone jacks.
Plug the other end into a modular telephone wall jack.
(Optional) Plug your telephone into the remaining phone jack so you can use your phone when your not using the modem.

The word for word quote is fine, allies - definitely is pretty d@mn convenient. Too bad all modems aren't this convenient.

Maybe I'll share that info with the tech support over at Sonic, since they don't seem to be aware of it.
