Diamond 3850 owners - URGENT question!

Hi there,


I am putting together my new HTPC, using this brand-new card, and I'm very displeased with the CD provided by Diamond...

It seems they're using hastily-prepared CD-Rs, containing drivers and information from the Radeon 2xxx series.

What's my best course of action? Should I go ahead and use the programs on the CD, and hope that they're adequate for my card, or should I install something else (like the most recent Catalysts?)

How did you guys install your cards?

I always install the latest drivers when I install a vid card. I have a 3870 and was likewise disappointed in my included drivers but did fine with cat 7.11.

I see several downloads: the Catalyst driver, Catalyst Control Centre, Hydravision and MMC & Remote Wonder (which I probably don't need) - should I get all of the first three?

*edit* strike the above question, it seems , according to this page (http://game.amd.com/us-en/driv...t.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp) that I found the difference between various downloads...

just install the latest catalyst suite and do a recommended install, at the moment the latest is 7.11

aaaaargh!

I'm getting an error during the installation!

"Error Number 0x80040707"

a few websites suggested creating a "desktop" folder in "documents and setting/all Users" , but I already have it!

*edit* I updated the driver manually from Device Manager, and was able to install the Catalyst Control Centre and Hydravision from separate downloads... I'm not at all impressed with the way the software was put together, I hope this doesn't turn into an ill omen... ...

You may occasionally come across a Windows error message with the code 0x8004xxxx, and you'll probably find very little documentation on how to handle it. You'll often encounter this error when you're running an installation or upgrade routine from within Windows.

Solution:

If you're getting this error message as part of an installation or upgrade routine, here's one of the easiest ways to circumvent the problem:

1. Go to the directory that holds the file for launching the installation (for example, Setup.exe).

2. Right-click on the installation file and select Run As.

3. Uncheck the box that says Protect My Computer And Data From Unauthorized Activity, and click OK.

Alternatively, if you're running this installation from a CD, you may need to simply clean the CD and try the installation again. Another possibility for resolving this error is to run Windows Update on the system before running the installation routine.

If none of those solutions work, try these two links, which provide additional information on the error and ways to overcome it:

You can also try this:

If you are having an install error can you go to this folder: c:\documents and settings\all users\
Create a Desktop folder and a Documents folder and try to run the install again. It should complete successfully now.

Be sure to use Driversweeper for future installations.

never use the bundled drivers they are ussually a few versions old. you shouldn't need hydra vision either.
