I'm trying to fix a laptop my dad's been given, and old K6-2 job with windows 98se.
Two problems I'm having, both semi-related.
1) I connect through dialup in the usual way, but it isnt actually transmitting anything. dup icon sits in the systray but shows no more than a 1kb sent/received. Kerio firewall is installed but i tried after exiting it and no go.
2) There is only one "phone jack" type socket on the laptop, and sometimes when plugging the telephone lead in, it behaves like i've plugged the line into an eithernet socket (the modem reports no dialtone, and the telephones in the house have no dialtone). It seems to switch between being a 56k modem and a eithernet socket at random when the machine is off.
any ideas?
