Hi everyone,
I'm having a strange problem with dial-up networking on a computer. This has happened twice recently after the computer was left on but unused for a long time (over 6 hours). After returning to the computer, no shortcuts to dial my ISP work. Double clicking/pressing enter on the icon just flashes the hourglass then returns to the arrow cursor. And, the dial-up networking folder (under MY Computer) won't even open. It briefly flashes the same way.
Rebooting fixes it until the next time.
What I've tried:
1. Uninstalling/Reinstalling Dialup Networking
2. Replacing wsock32.dll file from another computer
3. Uninstall/Reinstall TCP/IP
4. Upgrading DUN from Microsoft's download
5. Run virus scans
6. Check for overheating
7. Replaced RAM
8. Reloaded Windows 95 over existing one
9. Reloaded Windows 95 fresh then copied old stuff except wsock files (and not replacing Windows system files)
10.Shut down all running programs with Ctrl-Alt-Del before trying
11.Scandisk & Defrag
The system:
AMD k62-450
FIC 503+ MB
Diamond Speedstar A70 video card
USR 56k int modem
Realtek NIC
128mb RAM
more stuff (not needed?)
Windows OSR2
IBM 13.5 gig HD
Thank you in advance everyone. You're all so helpful all the time!
