dialup configuration in XP

I have this weird configuration problem with xp. I want to have that networking icon on my taskbar when I connect to the internet ( that two computers connected icon). So I check that show icon on taskbar when connected checkbox on my dialup settings. However, I end up checking this box everytime I connect because xp doesn't seem to save my settings or something. Thanks
