So I have a Netzero basic account... could I use this device to dial out using my netzero account and my sprintpcs connection?
I would not be paying for this device so cost is not an option.

See this device for $80

The site says:-

Will also connect the cell phones to a serial port on a computer.
No modem required.
Use your current e-mail account to send and receive e-mail.

Has anyone done this before?

Sweetness,
Mer.

Well, generally a cable like this is used to make a net connection via GPRS, but if they have drivers for it, you may be able to use the phone as an analog modem as well. I'm really not sure if this product is designed for that, though.

Which phone do you have? Do you have a Vision plan?

I have a Sanyo 8100 and a Vision plan. I bought a cable off Ebay that allows me to connect my laptop to the Vision network and surf the web. Speed is up and down but it's generally a little faster than Dial-up. Plus the cabe also charges the phone through the USB port. Perfect if you are on the road and don't have your charger with you.

I have the Sprint A500 phone, and I do not have a vision plan.

I was hoping the device linked would give me the rquivalent of connecting a landline to a modem.

I would be using it to connect my PC to the cellular line.

So I suppose the device would need to act like a modem for a cellular line, just as our regular modems give us access to the landline.
