I have a sweet cable connection at home and when I go to work, i have no internet connection. I'm tired of paying an ISP $20/ month when I already have an internet connection at home. How can I dial into my home PC and use its internet connection? I have looked into Remote Access Desktop, but that's too much I think... I don't need to use anything on my home PC except the internet connection.

You mean install as in - reformat and install windows server? Or install onto my XP PRo machine?

So there's no way to do it just on my XP Pro machine?

i believe that to have a regular setup you need the active directory enviroment (domain controller to authenticate users).. so yes you will need windows server for terminal services.

you could look into a linux distribution for the answers?

btw - endere0314@ncstudent.net if you get it to work im curious

What about just setting up an "Incoming Connections" VPN, then setup a dialup connection to your home phone number?

I HAD one of the 9.95 ISPs, but they all require spyware on your PC to cover the extra $10 they lose per month.

I wanted to do the same thing but research showed that at best it would be a very slow connection. Apparently retail modems aren't very good for this kind of job. I wound up getting free dial up from Earthlink who provides my cable access. Have you looked to see if your ISP offers anything similar?

Does Comcast offer dial-up service?
No. Currently, Comcast does not offer dial-up services to our customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you.

There is a lot of back bone Dialup providers (like UUNet, world.net etc.) they cover the whole of the USA with thousands of Modem Access Lines, and they are use by most DialUp providers as a real access entry point to the Internet. They do not sell to individual but there are a lot of vendors offering them.

You just find the locale number that you are at, and use I.E with ID and PW to go onto what ever home page in the world you choose.

Here is an example of a vendor that offers these services. $9.95, No Software, No Spyware, No Nothing, Just pure DialUp Internet.

That link was for 17.99 a month. :-(
I'd be interested in a service like this to ship with machines I sell. Most People go for AOL and I hate installin that.

The first link looks good at 13.95. The certificate offered by the second made firefox cough so i'd stay away. Thx for the link, I'm gonna save the first link to pass on to customers as an alternate to AOL.
