Just wondering how many of you guys are actually stuck with dial-up like I am? (Whoo- hoo, I don't even connect at 28.8k!)

Haha, believe me, if I had the option I would switch to broadband in a heartbeat... I just don't have anything available in my area.

People are either cheap asses or it's not available in their area. You fall into the latter category.

Or their only option is some ultra uber expensie satellite/wireless solution which costs ZOMG $$$$ per minute with terrible ping.

Even homeless people have broadband. Though shady, you can probably get on broadband by getting a wireless network card.

24.0k here typically :(
I just spent about 3.5 hours downloading some (legal)music tonight. 34MB, so 3.5 isn't too bad for me.

I'd be suprised if there's any wireless within 15 miles of me.

Dial up here. I live out in BFE and my only option would be Sat which I have no interest in. Currently surfing the net in a blaze of 28.8 Kbps glory!

I use dial up when I'm at my parent's place. it's not the end of the world if you are just surfing. downloading is a bit sad, tho.

I'm not sure how much of the internet is useable at dialup, medicore speed at that.
The rurals are a great place, I like them, but there are still rural locations with modern conveniences, move there!

I'm on dialup. Satellite is the only option, and I'm too cheap for that. So... I continue in misery. :)

Looks like you can get satellite for $50 a month now, maybe less. The install and equipment is still like $200-300. Better then dial up.

You're off by a few hundred for the install.

I did my research... wild blue for me. But, I'm still on dial-up. No installers in my area yet. :( I'm holding out for a couple more months; wild blue *seems* to be a better value than hughesnet.

At wildblue.com it is $299 for equipment and free install. So seems I am right as that is the one I used for my numbers. Zip code for me is 27519
