I have a Pionex Pentium 133 that has a modem that wont connect. Running win 95B, a ViVA 33.6 modem.
I have replaced modem with a new one but dial networking kept telling me to turn it on. I never got any reaction so I put the old one back in. You can hear it dial as we wait for verification of password and all that stuff but gives a dial up networking error of can not find server, check configuration settings. Everything looks ok to me. There are no yellow exclamation marks in device manager under modem or
ports. It shows the modem in device manager. I dont think theres a whole lot wrong,I keep thinking that
its something very minor. It also shows it on com port 5 rather than 1 or 2 and thats one item I dont think is correct. I need suggestions please to get this problem squared away.

I'm assuming that it's an internal modem, right? If so, it's not unusual for internal modems to be on higher COM ports. Also, I'm assuming that it connects to the internet, and displays an icon in the system tray upon doing so. However, programs like Internet Explorer can not access web pages. Is this correct?
If so, you might want to go into the properties for your internet connection, to the networking tab, choose internet protocol from the list (and btw, if any others besides "internet protocol (tcp/ip)" are checked, uncheck them, and make sure that internet protocol is checked). Go to properties, and set both "obtain an ip address automatically" and "obtain dns server addresses automatically". If this doesn't solve the problem, there may be other options, but please try this first to make sure these settings are correct.
