Hi, I need some help switching my 2 pc home network from cable to dial up. I hate to do it, but anyway..
Right now I have the 2 pcs sharing cable internet through an SMC Barricade router.
Can I use a dial up modem with my router? I was at SMC?s support site, I think I can, but didn?t see much help. Would I need an external dial up modem to do this?
Both pcs are running Windows 98 original, so I don?t think I have ICS software. I never could get file sharing or printer sharing working, but I got the internet shared, so I just let it be.
I see I may need some proxy software, but I need a little help understanding that, which PC do I install it on, both? And is it easy to configure.
Both pcs are on the same desk, so cabling them together is not a problem.
Each pc has a NIC in it now, and I have 2 spare NICs.
I have 1 spare internal PCI 56k V.92 Zoom modem, not installed.
I also have a spare POS 486 with 16m ram running win95, no monitor.
Also if anyone wants to recommend an inexpensive, reliable ~10.00/month dial up for the Chicago area, I?d appreciate it.
Thanks a lot for any help
Melissa
