ok guys, need some dial up modem help. i haven't used a dial up modem in about 2 years so i'm a bit rusty.
my uncle's friend bought each of his 2 sons a laptop for christmas. the guy didn't have a lot to spend so he ended up getting some refurbished dells with windows 2000. one laptop will connect to the internet fine with dial up networking.
the other dials and tries to connect but gets a port error. cannot connect to port is what it says, i think.
i tried to walk the one son on the phone through making sure the dial up networking was set up correctly and checking some modem settings. everything seems to be ok from what i can tell. they are probably going to bring the laptop over so i can personally look at it.
any ideas off hand what it might be?
