Dial-up modem Error 720

About sums it up. Have tried two separate modems, both work in other PC's, neither in my friends. Same error, #720. Give me some ideas here....IP version 4 and 6 are both defined and defined automatically....

Not really sure, haven't done Dial-up much, and can't really help the friend here. So, ideas, mates?

did they install all the network software when they installed Vista, I normally do not let Vista install anything for Dialup.

I apologize, I am forgetting crucial details: It worked fine up until ~June 19. About 8:30 PM, there is a logged windows update. It worked up until she turned off her computer, for the night, at about 8:30.

I cannot for the life of me get it figured out. We spent about 6 hours with tech support, and pretty much ruled out everything short of a configuration error...but feel free to suggest whatever comes to mind...If I don't find anything by Monday, I am going to reinstall windows (she is an app junkie, which means a hell of a time reinstalling and reconfiguring everything).

If the identity of the update is neccessary and not apparent, I can call her up and ask...it was the latest update at that point.

I'd say check the system event viewer, at this point I doubt it'll show anything that far back. I 'd also check device manager, and see if there are any conflicts.

I did both, and the only thing that had happened was the update installation.

There were no issues whatsoever in the device manager. I tried doing several rollbacks, and none of them had any effect (aside from reinstalling the modem I brought over).

Installation of the second card went smoothly, both cards have the proper drivers installed (and both worked in other PC's). I even dug up the E-Machines system restoration disk, to reinstall the drivers.

My laptop was able to connect with the exact same settings.

Anything other suggestions?

What was the update number? Can you find that out?

Check for a system restore point before June 19.
