Dial-up ISPs

I am searching for a new dial-up ISP for a friend. Being that I've been on broadband for the last ~5 years, I'm really out of touch with dial-up and the companies that offer it.

After searching the web for a while, I stumbled across on mFire (mfire.com). They charge $14.95 (with promo code) or $17.95 for 'hi-speed', have unlimited access, 24/7 free tech support, and the 'normal' easy setup/etc.

They have been highly recommended by Discount ISP Comparison and well rated by ISP Rank.

Has anyone heard anything else about these guys? Or heard of a better ISP that is accessable in the Portland, OR area?

I am hesitant to go with AOL or Earthlink after hearing some horror stories.

Thanks in Advance.

w0lf42,

Anything over $8.25/mo (or $99/yr) is overpriced.

I also live in Portland, Oregon ... I would recommend access4less.net which offers cheap 56k dialup service which has surprisingly good service. I have tried connecting to access4less in NE and SE Portland, everytime I get 49.2k speeds which is very good. It's very seldom that you get a busy signal and they have several local dialup phone numbers.

If you decide to sign up for access4less.net there are two options:
Access4Less service is available for $5.95/month with no setup fee at this special FreedomList link:
http://access4less.net/flspecial.asp

Access4Less also offers service for $4.95/month w/$8 setup fee at this link:

I can let you 'test' our account if you'd like. We recently got our broadband and will cancel our access4less account soon. Before I do that you're more than welcome to dial in to test out speeds, email, etc. Please PM me your AIM/MSN or phone number and I'll contact you.

Thanks for the generous offer. Unfortunately, I don't have a standard phone line (I'm one of those freaks that uses a cell phone and broadband).
