Dial-up Internet sharing? How?

I use a crappy-but-free dial-up service on my desktop machine at home. I have a laptop provided by the school and a nice speedy connection there. I want to use my laptop at home as well, and share the dial-up connection (rather than install the free-service software on the laptop directly). I have all the networking hardware/cables- and I *think* I have them networked properly... Weird- I could only find the other computer by "Search"ing for computer! Oh well, once I found the other machine, I copied the drive link to the desktop. That works for now.
Any tips?
(BTW: You guys are the greatest! Now all I need is COBOL help!)

Back in my days of dial-up I used to use sygate sharing software at sygate.com. Very nice, very easy software to use.. does the job perfectly.
