Dial-Up Internet Connection and Home Network

I need some help. I just put a second computer together and I was trying to set up Internet Connection Sharing, but now I have gone and messed my regular internet connect through dial-up. Before I started trying to get ICS, I had the two computers networked and was able to play LAN games, but NO internet sharing. Now I have tried to configure the two computer using information on the internet and I

1) LOST the network connection between the two computers

2) my main computer can no longer use the dial up!

I really don't know what to do, but reformat the computer/s. I don't want to do that, but it seems I am digging a deeper hole for myself each time I try something.

The main system runs WinXP Pro and has a modem and LAN.

The second system runs WinME and has a modem and LAN, too.

Help!

This is not General Hardware related.

Setup your internet connection on your main system. You do not have to configure it to share or anything. Than download and installthis. Run the program, and right click on the net info. Remember the ip address at the bottom.

Now go to your second pc
Open up IE (6) , go to tools > internet options > connections and than lan settings. Click use proxy server, enter the ip address that I told you to remember, and use 6588 as the port #. The proxy has a readme which tells you the other ports. Click bypass server for local addresses. Hit ok, select "never dial a connection" and hit ok

For the internet to work on your second machine, the proxy and your internet connection must always be on, on your main system

Thanks for the link and info. Now I got to get my dial-up connection to work again on my main system.

Any idea how to do that? Windows now says there is no modem avaliable; however, in the device manager the modem is there and working properly. There is not connection visable in my my network places anymore.
