I have a small lan--two XP computers connected by a crossover cable to the NIC's on both computer. Networking method is microsoft Internet connection sharing. No affordable method other than dial up exists in my area.
Lately my existing ISP has become rather flaky--less than reliable and over priced. Downside of switching ISP's is loss of email address and the hazard of jumping out of frying pan and into the fire by getting an even flakier ISP.
So I am retaining the existing ISP for some time but will sort of play musical chairs with other
ISP's---trying one for a month---and if that does not work--pitch them and try an alternate
ISP until I find one that is reliable---and that I do want to go with.
For the host computer this is no problem---just dial into one ISP or the other---but for the client computer---I can set ICS sharing to use one connection--and if the host computer is not using the dial up connection ICS was set up to use---the client computer gets nothing
at all in the way of a network share.
Without getting an expensive router with a special dial up modem---is there anyway to set up ICS so the client computer can use any dial up connection the host computer has?---rather than one and only one.
