Dial up connects, but IE won't open

Okay, I'm trying to solve this problem remotely, as the user is about 150 miles away. He has XP, he installed the modem. It makes all the modem noise, connets, shows the two monitors in the task bar lighting up, but he can't get online... ??

I tried having him go to Outlook Express first and then IE as I read some people got that to work, but no fly.

He's tried msn, yahoo, etc, etc and it all gives the standard ie error.

Any clues? It's been so long since I had dial up I have no recollection of all this...

He can start Internet Explorer and go to the Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab, then select the dial-up connection for it to use. Here's mine, for example: link Hope that helps

Thanks for the answer Mech. I had him do that and still no go. May be a DNS problem, I'll be helping him some more tomorrow. Time for bed now
