diagnosing front-panel short?

The front-panel is shorting out the video and/or mobo in general. Case is an Antec 902, mobo is a gigabyte 785g ud2h, psu is corsair hx620. When I first put it together, it was the front audio jacks that caused problems, but now the front usb is having the same problem. The short happens even if you get a connector very close to the ports without actually touching.

Time to start trouble-shooting. What are the possible causes? Thanks for any help!

what?

totally remove the panel from the case, reconnect to motherboard while out in the open, then see if it reoccurs.
